Abstract

A descriptive cross-sectional study with quantitative and qualitative approach that aimed to investigate the nurses’ knowledge and perception of adverse effects, reporting of such events and factors that may limit reporting. Data collection was performed between November and December 2015 in a public hospital of the Center-South region of the state of Sergipe. The sample was composed of 28 nurses who completed a semi-structured form analyzed through descriptive statistics and content analysis. Among the participants, 16 (57%) were 16 (57%) showed little knowledge on adverse events, and, 27 (96%) respondents perceived the importance of reporting. However, these events are underreported due to fear of punishment, among other factors. It is concluded that educational actions and measures aimed to clarify these health professionals on adverse events and encourage reporting are needed.
