Toma de decisiones de los enfermeros en el Sistema de Triaje de Manchester

Objetivo: Explorar las percepciones de los enfermeros sobre la toma de decisiones en el Sistema de Triaje de Manchester, incluyendo sus implicaciones para la seguridad del paciente y las estrategias de mejora.
Método: Se realizó un estudio cualitativo y exploratorio en un servicio de urgencias del norte de Portugal. Mediante un muestreo por conveniencia se incluyeron diez enfermeros con más de dos años de experiencia en triaje. En mayo de 2025 se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas, analizadas mediante el análisis de contenido de Bardin.
Resultados: El triaje se percibió como un contribuyente esencial para la seguridad del paciente al priorizar las quejas y definir tiempos de espera apropiados. La toma de decisiones estuvo influida por factores relacionados con el enfermero, factores relacionados con el paciente, las limitaciones del sistema de triaje y el contexto organizacional. Entre las mejoras sugeridas se incluyeron auditorías, la revisión de los protocolos, la evaluación estructurada del dolor, la integración de escalas de alerta temprana, la formación/recertificación continua, la mentoría, una mejor interoperabilidad de los sistemas de información y medidas institucionales para reducir las interrupciones.
Conclusión: La toma de decisiones en el triaje es multifactorial y requiere un desarrollo profesional continuo y apoyo organizacional.
