Psychometric properties of an instrument for assessing patient safety teaching and learning in higher education*

Objective: To develop and evaluate the psychometric properties of an instrument for assessing teaching and learning strategies on patient safety in the context of Nursing Higher Education.
Method: Methodological study conducted between February and April 2025, developed in three stages: literature review, instrument development, and psychometric validation. Content validity was assessed by 10 experts and 30 students. The instrument was administered to 195 students from five federal universities. The Content Validity Coefficient, Exploratory Factor Analysis, Composite Reliability, the H index, and item discrimination parameters based on Item Response Theory were used.
Results: The review identified 19 publications that supported the instrument's development. The Content Validity Coefficient was 0.91 (experts) and 0.93 (target audience). Factor analysis showed satisfactory factor loadings and high reliability.
Conclusion: The instrument demonstrated validity, a consistent factor structure, and high reliability, making it suitable for assessing teaching and learning strategies for patient safety in Higher Education.
