Abstract

This study objectified to know the perception of postpartum women hospitalized in a rooming-in facility of a hospital in the south of Rio Grande do Sul State/ Brazil. Complying with resolution 196/96, we carried out semistructured interviews with five postpartum women, hospitalized for more than 12 hours, in a rooming-in facility, focusing on: positive feelings in relation to the room; necessities and care delivery to the woman and the newborn; care rendering; unmet caring needs; advisory at discharge. From the analysis of the data, the postpartum women expressed positive feelings in relation to the room, although they were dissatisfied about the advisory rendered on their self-care and the babies; the advisory given was ultimately rendered in view of problem solution rather than problem prevention. The nursing team can be very helpful in an educational process that favors the understanding and reflection of the woman on health promoting care to herself and her child.
