When considering the human being as social actor, agent of its health – illness process, is essencial to consider it historically. Thus to know history is necessary for the nurse, who when making of the care to the human being its object of work, needs to come close itself to history, and together it to understand the complex insertion of the illnesses, was born, exactly of the necessity to understand and to rescue the life human being, therefore, to know the history of the prevention of the transmissible illnesses are absolute condition for the performance of the nurse in the National Program of the Immunizations. This to walk in the prevention of transmissible illnesses meets permead for the history of the smallpox, object of study of the present work.
