ABSTRACT: Work has been theme for research and studies in nursing professional field. However, the evolution of
different kinds of knowledge as well as the globalization process makes its understanding even more challenging in the
different health contexts. This article aims to develop reflections on nursing work process and its relationship with the
management of a hospital in-patient unit. The text makes some considerations on nursing work process, that is, the
influence of institutions in caring and unit management, its constraints and competences facing new management models
of health institutions, which often drive nurses’ actions in their caring practice.
