This study aimed to identify the conditioning factors that favor or hinder the application of Interorganizational Cost Management (ICM) in a value chain in the apparel sector. For this purpose, a diagnostic survey was carried out in five companies in the same value chain in the apparel sector, namely: a clothes manufacturer with their own brand, a client and three suppliers of direct material/labor. The study adopted the model proposed by Souza and Rocha (2009) and used interviews and questionnaires as a method of data collection. With the findings, it was found that all companies, with some exceptions, have conditioning factors that favor the application of the GCI. The conditioning factors that most favor GCI are the products, components and relationship levels in the value chain of the analyzed clothing sector. It can be seen from the study that the types of chain and mechanisms are favorable to GCI, but in a more tenuous way. The importance of the relationship in the companies in the analyzed chain is also highlighted, as well as the verification of the existence of an informal GCI in some analyzed companies, for having the products, components, relationship, value chain and the disciplinary and incentive mechanisms suitable for to GCI.
