Abstract

The worldwide concern with the environment, the threat to survival and global warming due to greenhouse gas emissions, make the environmental management and the Kyoto Protocol occupy a prominent place in international debates. The aim of this study is to verify how the environmental management of the business unit UPL - Unit Production Piglets is performed according to the Kyoto Protocol. Regarding the methodology work appears as a descriptive research through an illustrative case with a qualitative approach to the problem. Data were collected through desk research, questionnaires and interviews with managers responsible for UPL. It was found in the unit's concern to apply techniques of sustainable development and environmental preservation such as waste treatment systems through digesters, which in addition to preventing pollution from methane gas in the air, is utilized to generate all energy consumed inside the barn. The company's concern is not only within the UPL, but provides technical support to customers. The company is awaiting the release of the United Nations to sell carbon credits.
