Abstract

The objective of this work is to verify the manifestations of
identity in the contemporary literary context. Therefore, we
have studied the short stories by Brazilian writer João Gilberto
Noll (1943-), encompassed in his book Mínimos, múltiplos,
comuns (2003). In some of the texts collected in the volume,
Noll presents characters that are subjected to tormented
situations that make them experience identity crises. Thus, it
is possible to infer that the protagonists of Mr. Noll’s short
stories represent imaginative figurations of the postmodern
subject, that is, a subject whose identity is not defined,
finished, coherent, but in constant process of construction and
questioning.
