Abstract

This work has as its aim to describe and analyze linguistics uses from different environments on the Internet. It also relates them with aspects concerning the electronic support. For this, chats, blogs, fotologs, e-mails, conversation programs, electronic communities and companies as well as government sites were investigated. Their linguistics features were put together on broad topics, such as: punctuation; spelling; shortenings; lexicon; signs; and more or less proximity with writing. Peculiarities in punctuation and writing were found. It was also noticed the use of many shortenings, the use of a specific vocabulary from Internet (used to denominate things and actions from the electronic world), and a large variety of emoticons. Moreover, texts distinct from common writing were found (especially at chats and conversation programs) and written texts were identified (at companies and government sites, as well as at some e-mails, blogs, fotologs and messages from the electronic community). Lastly, evaluating some aspects of the writing support (electronic) was very important for this process, since this support consists in a provocative factor in Internet linguistics features that were investigated.
