The origins of the Law Practice Center at the UnB

Abstract

This text aims at showing the creation’s trajectory of the Legal Aid Office of the Faculty of Law of the University
of Brasília. In order to do this, concepts and experiences that permeate the implementation of the new
curriculum’s guidelines and the role of the integration among teaching, research and extension were studied.
Among them the “Direito Achado na Rua”, the “Núcleo para Paz e Direitos Humanos” and the struggle for
rights developed in “Vila da Telebrasília”. Through the study of this case, it was demonstrated that theory
and practice can not be separated and how the Law can be comprehended as the freedom’s legitimate
social organization. The Law is built and rebuilt in the core of society, during the social movements struggle,
in public spaces where citizens with public and private autonomy live their auto legislation: in the streets.
So, the juridical knowledge must open itself in a transdisciplinary way, understanding the social complexity
and breaking the knowledges compartmentalization. Knowledges increasingly broad are necessary to deal with the new social problems.
