Abstract

The aim of this study is to promote a theoretical reflection on moral harassment in nursing working settings,

as well as to promote the value of professionals’ subjectivity dimension. Moral harassment consists of a relevant

phenomenon, even though it is still not largely debated in the historical health context, especially in nursing. Therefore, it

must be addressed, since it may disrupt someone’s life, not only professionally but also his/her self-esteem. The main

ways of moral harassment identified in nursing are: public as well as private humiliations with threats; depreciation of

professional image; gossips and mean rumors; absurd demands by bosses and task requests which can not be carried out,

among others. Thus, it is nursing task to alert to strategies which could be adopted in order to avoid psychic suffering.
