Este texto foi originalmente publicado no Cadernos em Desenvolvimento e Meio Ambiente, volume 1 (1994). Os Cadernos foram criados pelas iniciativa de Magda Zanoni e Claude Raynaut para abrir um debate sobre os fundamentos epistemológicos e metododológicos da interdisciplinaridade no campo ambiental. Neste artigo, em particular, foram discutidos tais pressupostos no caso da fundação do Doutorado em Meio Ambiente e Desenvolvimento que recém havia iniciado sua primeira turma.
