Abstract

ABSTRACT: This study was developed in a town in Florianopolis metropolitan region in 2004, and aimed to identify the

knowledge on Brazilian Psychiatric Reform among mental health professionals of a Psychosocial Care Center (CAPS in

Portuguese). The subjects were five professionals – superior educational level – from the center. Data were collected using

semi-structured interview and a qualitative analysis was performed following the steps proposed by Minayo1. Two

categories were defined: Psychiatric Reform and its guiding Concepts. This study evidenced that the restructuring of the

Psychiatric Care Delivery is recognized as a change that gives priority attention to render care to mental patients at other

institutions rather than a hospital. The investigated issues were similar and related to users’ rights and citizenship.
