Abstract

Orem and Watson are two nursing theorists who have given significant contribution to nursing by developing a conceptual basis which increases the body of nursing knowledge. This article emphasizes opposing views in regards to the paradigmatic origem of their theories, and the nature of nursing. Also comments on the strategies for theory development utilized by the two theorists, and on their contribution to nursing science.
