Abstract

In this ethnograph, values, beliefs and practices are analyzed as to the regulation of teenagers fecundity in a marginal urban community. Leininger´s cultural care theory was essential to reveal qhat is tacit in teenagers´behavior towards fecundity regulation. Three themes came up on ethnografic description: maternity as an option offered to the teenager to secure social acknowledgement from neighbors and famili members; paternity as an opportunity an adolescent has to state his male ideal; and feminine subordination on contraceptive practices to regulate fecundity. The cultural themes, showed practices and beliefs, in accordance with the three action modalities identified in Leininger´s theory, can be preservaded, negociated and restructured to offer a culturally congruent care.
