ABSTRACT: This research aimed to feature working population at Sterilized Material Centers in six hospitals in the city of
Londrina/Parana State, Brazil and assess their environmental temperature. Our main objective was to recommend actions
to improve the quality of work carried out in these Centers. 100 professionals of those centers participated, most were
female (96.0%), ages averaging 39.5 years, high school educational level. Subvariables were set in order to assess
environmental temperature: actual environmental temperature and air moisture conditions. Regarding environmental
indicators, standards required by NR-17 were used. In relation to air moisture conditions, all the hospitals were found to
be within acceptable levels, according to the standards by NR-17 (normative rules by the Ministry of Labor), however the
actual temperature was found to exceed acceptable limits in all the Centers of Sterilized Materials included in this study.
Thus, all the hospitals submitted to this study need to undergo adjustments concerning the maintenance of correct
temperature in Sterilized Material Centers.
