This study aims to collect national literature articles on the theme: nursing shift change, emphasizing the main aspects addressed. A literature review was carried out manually and on the internet with 11 nursing journals published from 1996 until 2006. Eight articles about this theme were found and the main aspects approached were: concept, information type, used modality, hindering factors, and responsibility. The results lead us to think over the need for communication-skilled professionals, able to sensitize their teams on the relevance of this activity, and able to create alternative and efficient ways to get across consistent and qualified information during shift change.
