Abstract

Care, for critical patients, requires technical excellence and humanism to get technical and scientific high-quality care without putting aside patients´ personhood thus reaching ethic-moral excellence of care. The present discussion points out issues regarding patients’ selection/election as well as reasoning/rationing of therapeutic and diagnostic measures grounded by the ethical background of beneficence, non-maleficence, justice and respect for autonomy. These ethical principles were pondered and specified by the ethics of care.
