Abstract

In Caminhos dos Gerais, by Bernardo Élis, Thanatos (death) manifests itself in tragic and morbid forms. Eros (love) manifests
itself in love for the life of “self”. By orchestrating these plots of life and death, a tragic conception of existence associated with a degree of hopelessness in human beings (involved in a “brutal struggle for life”) leads to dehumanization.
