Abstract

This is a short analysis of sebastic elements and appearances of D. Sebastião in Portuguese literature. We start from the work of two historians and then focus on a few somehow recent fictional works, especially O mosterio, by Agustina Bessa-Luis. Based on the relevance of the image of a political messiah, we draw comparisons between Brazil and Portugal, and furthermore try to comprehend the significance of feminine in D. Sebastiãos legends.
