Abstract

Based on his biography and on the poem España en el corazón, this study attempts to re-examine the relationship that the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda (1904-1973) experienced in Spain as a diplomat, poet, and human being as well as consider the extent to which his reputation as peoples poet can be supported. No surprises are to be expected in this process of revisiting the topic; it is mainly the result of an inquisitive look at one of the most noteworthy Latin American poets to whom we pay tribute as we celebrate his birth centenary.
