Abstract

This paper analyzes Brazilian Portuguese ada-nominals in the
framework of Distributed Morphology. The analysis leads to
the following conclusions: (a) the ada-nominals, derived from
verbs, which appear in light verb constructions (LVC) with the
verb dar, are not formed by a simple attachment of a sufix to
a verbal base: they are nominalizations of participial forms of
verbs; (b) the atelic interpretation which they usually receive
does not follow from their morphosyntactic structure, but from
their interaction with the LVC in which they typically occur.
