Abstract

Patricia Melo is a Brazilian writer who started to be published in 1994. Her fiction escapes from the standard ways of Brazilian feminine authorship tradition, born in the XIXth. Century. This tradition implies in a memorialistic and/or autobiographic tone, emphasizing the feminine universe private and domestic in which themes such as maternity, conjugal relationship, social and familiar oppression etc can be seen. This work aims to study the ways gender relationships are represented in O Matador (The killer), Melos second novel, published in 1995. Feminist Criticism is the theoretical support.
