Abstract

The contemporary Portuguese novel which presents reports of wars, predominantly, demythifies the historical fact, removes all traces of dignity and praise from the warlike event, and reduces it to the level of human degradation. With the intention of discussing this issue, the present article analyses the image of the colonial conflict between Portugal and Mozambique in A costa dos murmúrios (1988) by Lídia Jorge, using Homers Iliad for comparison.
