Community Cinema in Region 5 of Vila Velha, ES

Abstract

This paper describes the planning and development process for an extension project of the architecture and urban planning program, linked to the university’s graduate program in architecture and urban planning. The report details technical assistance provided to implement a community cinema at a development institute in a suburban neighborhood of the municipality of Vila Velha, in the state of Espírito Santo. The process unfolded in five stages: (1) “Identification of Initial Constraints”; (2) “Creative Workshop with the Community”; (3) “Project Consultation”; (4) “Development of Lighting Prototypes”; and (5) “Lighting Workshop.” These stages involved undergraduate and graduate students, professors, a mentor, the local community, the proposing institute, the municipal government, and companies in the sector. The extension activities were linked to the teaching and practice of design. The project was successfully implemented, and the community cinema is now in operation, also serving as a multipurpose space for public use.
