Abstract

ABSTRACT: Death in hospitals is frequently observed in its different sectors, among them, the emergency one. This

study objectifies to analyze articles published in Brazilian journals, in the period between 1985 and 2006, about the death

consequences in emergency services, experienced by health teams that work in these settings. It is a bibliographic review

of publications in the health area, available at Bireme Virtual Library. We found two articles that fit the inclusion criteria of

the study. Data analysis followed the thematic analysis. Based on the selected articles, we have identified that professionals

who are acting in emergency units describe anguish, fear, sadness and unsafety as a result of situations in which death is

present. The team’s confrontation with death is considered challenging and this routine is mentioned as stressful, which

is reflected on the work of the team.
