Abstract

It is a case study with qualitative approach. The question that guided the study was: How do nurses in the Pediatric ICU gather knowledge during the process of ongoing education in their daily work? The object of study was the ongoing education of nurses who work in the pediatric intensive care unit and aimed to analyze how nurses learn in the practice of critical infant care. The study was carried out in a public institution. The subjects were nurses. The data collection was developed by means of a half-structured interview and participant observation. Thematic data analysis was used. Results evidenced that, during daily practice, acquisition of knowledge is effected, and time is the major factor for acquisition of new competencies.
