Abstract

This is an exploratory descriptive research realized with five children who were detected câncer and were hospitalized in a hemato-oncologic unit in a Pediatric Hospital in the south of Brasil. It has as objective to allow
the expression of ‘the images of what mean to be in a hospital’. As the methodological strategy was used playful workshops in which the data were collected by drawings and spoken reports. The data were analyzed with some author’s help about the imaginary and the daily life. The studied children show images about what is good or bad in a hospital, being health and taking care. It was detected that the images were related with the culture, many of them influencing the beliefs about health and disease. This work reinforces the importance of the health professional being alert to children expressions, allowing them to express the act of feel and think in order to expand the health possibilities even in the presence of a disease like câncer.
