THE HEALTH CONDITION OF FEMALE AGED RESIDENTS ON A LONG TERM CARE INSTITUTION

The survey had the objective to reveal the multi-dimensional properties of the female aged residents’ health
conditions on a long term care institution in Curitiba/PR. It is a quantitative transversal descriptive research, developed on
a long term care institution, with 20 aged residents, from April to July 2008. Data were collectied through the questionnaire
Brazil OldAge Schedule (BOAS) and the registries from the medical records and organized using descriptive statistics and
distribution of frequency. The elderly’s mean age was of 79,82 (±8,23) years. The most frequent illnesses: SAH (n=17;85%)
dislipidemias (n=7;35%), depression (n=7;35%), visual deficiency (n=6;30%), diabetes (n=5;25%), varices (n=5;25%) and
arthritis (n=5;25%). The mean of medicines used was of 6,05. It was observed a high prevalence of chronic diseases and
medicines consumption on the population studied. The identification of the potentials and necessities guide the planning
and execution of the gerontological assistance.
