The objective of this article was to analyze the spatial structure of rural properties and the agroforestry systems (AFS) that compose them, in the rural landscape of Terra Nova do Norte (State of Mato Grosso, Brazil). The study area corresponded to 202 rural properties that implemented, between 2010 and 2016, 659 AFS in their areas, 90,52% of them for restoration purposes. As measures of the spatial structure, landscape metrics were used on the area and shape of rural properties and AFS. The results indicate that all properties are family farms, with an average area of 55,85 ha, rectangular formats (mean of the shape index of: 1,75), and they were concentrated around the urban area. The AFS presented, in the majority, small areas with a mean area of: 0,43 ha and varied formats (average of the index of form: 2,28), according to their objectives in the property (AFS of production and AFS of restoration of permanent preservation areas around water courses and springs). AFS still do not represent a significant area in the rural properties analyzed (2,49% of the total rural properties area), but they are shown as a viable alternative to initiate the process of restoration of protected areas and to diversify the productive matrix, reintroducing the component trees in the landscape in a post-deforestation scenario.
