Abstract

The objective of the study was to economically evaluate the value in Family Agro-industrial Systems of Ecological Basis (SAFEs), both with respect to production in nature and as transformed (agro-industrialization) with organic shapes. The research questions that guided the investigation were: a) How much of the value is generated in an environmentally friendly agro-industrial farm? b) What is the value of the agro-industrial production system and the different ecological supply chains? To achieve this goal and answer the questions, we used a theoretical approach supported on the  evaluation of economic performance of production systems. Regarding the methodology, twelve ecological production units were surveyed, which produce and process foods in the Northern Region of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. The results show that these production systems have lower production costs compared to other experiences of Brazilian and Gaucho agriculture on the one hand and, on the other, they can generate higher levels of added value and profitability families and different supply chains analyzed by associating ecological production in natura with agro-industrialization.
