Abstract

This paper presents an experience report from the activities produced in an extension project, developed by
the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS) in the city of Campo Grande/MS, during 2006, under
the coordination of the Department of Education/CCHS and of the School of Councils Program/PREAE. The
project aimed at instructing basic education professionals from the municipal schools in Campo Grande/MS
that were included in the Open School Project, technicians from the State Department of Education, and
also professionals that worked in organizations for the protection of the rights of children and adolescents.
This project was integrated to a national project coordinated by the SECAD/MEC, named “Escola que
Protege” (School that Protects). The dialogic methodology adopted aimed at discussing the feelings, actions
and conducts of the education professionals in face of the sexual violence against children and adolescents
problem, as well as to reflect upon the role of schools as a space for identification and prevention of the
multiple violence actions against this public. This training included the following moments: initial seminary
in which the competences and attributions of the institutions that are part of the network for the protection
of children and adolescents, in each city, were discussed; 20h workshop aiming at supporting information
and reflections on the given theme; activities of socialization, developed by the course takers in their home
institutions, and a final seminary to expose and discuss the activities of socialization and the concepts
included and to exchange experiences between the participants.
