Abstract

Violence against children is identified as a major cause of morbidity and mortality in this age group and should be identified by all professionals who deal with this public, including teachers. The objective was to evaluate the preparation of teachers of kindergarten, with regard to perception and notification of cases of violence against children. We visited all the educational institutions of child in Araçatuba, SP, Brazil and the professionals who consented (n=236), answered a questionnaire on the subject. The data were analyzed quantitative and qualitative. 91.1% are considered responsible for notification and 86.9% call themselves able to identify attacks. 80.9% had received information about violence against children; however, 67.7% they feel insecure about the identification of cases. It was concluded that even having to undertake training before the violence, most of those surveyed still does not feel prepared, which can generate negligence.
