Abstract

O presente trabalho busca compreender os mecanismos de controle social, exercido pelo Estado ao criminalizar o Movimento de Trabalhadores Rurais Sem-Terra. Ao analisarmos as denúncias promovidas pelo Ministério Público, tipificando as ocupações coletivas em crime de formação de quadrilha, bem como as decisões judiciais determinando as prisões preventivas dos dirigentes do movimento, percebemos uma reorientação nas estratégias de controle estatal em um contexto de crise do Estado de Bem-Estar Social e a ampliação do Estado Penal. Entendemos que o crescimento do Estado Penal apontaria para formas mais ostensivas de controle sobre as classes entendidas ‘perigosas’, utilizando-se de uma política estritamente prisional.
