Mercantile culture in medievaltimes was a complex phenomenon notrestricted to modern limitations due to theprocess of codification. Mercantile practicesdid not limit themselves to legislated tradelaw on the basis of abstract rules but theymanifest themselves through the habits ofcorporation’s members and professionals.Such habits were rights derived from theirpractices and more than autonomous legalrules they were primary sources for lawmaking. These common law rules werethe law of merchants and they determinedstandards for professional behavior andcommodities trade.
