Abstract

This academic paper aims to cover the historical context in which Japan returned to international relations after the period of occupation post-World War II; seeking to correlate such events with the path theoretically taken for the development of its economy and diplomacy. Focusing on its relationship with the main actors of the Cold War, the United States - its main capitalist ally - and communist actors in Asia, such as China. Finally, the establishment of International Relations’ main theories that are able to explain the unusual behavior that the Japanese State adopted when separating its economy and politics aiming at its profits and development is described. Its reasons for seeking the financial aggrandizement of the country in the midst of the arms race and how its neutral security policy helped and differentiated them from other actors at the time. For this analysis to be possible, the method of bibliographic and documentary research was used, focusing on articles and books written by Asian authors and historians in the English language in an attempt to expose the point of view of the reconstruction of Japan that turned it into an important actor in East Asia due to the adoption of the “peace state”.
