Abstract

Several current studies have emphasized the implications caused by the children’s hospitalization, which may generate major changes, both on growth and development in childhood, due to various stressing procedures which they are submitted such as venipuncture, inhalation, catheterism, X-rays, among others. Given this context, this study tried - through literature review - to describe approaches used in children’s preparation, which ease the suffering imposed by the completion of the procedures during the period of hospitalization, in order to contribute to the practice of a more sensitive and humanized nursing. It is necessary for pediatric units to invest in resources to ensure the continuation of the psychological development through incentives adequate to age, and in health professionals’ qualification for them to deal with these patients.
