Abstract

This study objectified to understand adolescents’ expectations and feelings on their participation and

personal development in the dancing group of EDISCA - Dancing School and Social Integration to Children and Adolescents

(Escola de Dança e Integração para Crianças e Adolescentes). Nine adolescents took part in the research, carried out in

September/ 2006. The techniques used were focus group and a semi-structured interview where the units of meanings

were apprehended in order to encompass the following categories: expectations about EDISCA - showing the desire to be

a dancer, the urge to achieve personal growth and a promising future; Adolescents’ feelings on participation and personal

growth in the dancing group at EDISCA facing the acquired self-knowledge, self-confidence and maturity. The opportunities

available to adolescents were meaningful in building their personal growth, thus, it is fundamental to support the creation
