Abstract

This study investigates the use of cinema in chemistry education, aiming to analyze how the films Radioactive and City of Ice can contribute to the discussion of women's role in science and to chemistry teaching, highlighting the chemical knowledge present in the film scenes that allows for debates and reflections on the subject. The films Radioactive and City of Ice use captivating narratives to portray the barriers faced by women and their role in science, addressing, throughout their plots, scientific concepts, historical aspects, gender inequalities, and female protagonism. The methodology used was qualitative, based on a documentary approach to publications on the use of cinema in chemistry education and the representation of women in science, as well as the selection of two films related to these themes. From the analysis of the films, it was observed that these works favor learning by bringing students closer to scientific reality through engaging narratives that can awaken interest, curiosity, and reflection. Furthermore, they can allow for the exploration of the history of science, gender inequality, and women's contributions to scientific advancement, which should promote a more inclusive, meaningful, and critical approach to chemistry education.
