Resumo

El presente trabajo tiene por objeto estudiar el desarrollo de la educación técnico profesional en Chile en el marco del segundo Centenario republicano (1910-2010), con la finalidad de poder identificar algunos hitos relevantes de su proceso de desenvolvimiento histórico, sus principales desafíos y vicisitudes frente al complejo proceso de modernización de la sociedad y los nuevos requerimientos económicos, técnicos y laborales formulados por los diversos actores sociales. La ETP en Chile ha transitado por diferentes etapas y estadios de desarrollo. Durante el período referido (1910-2010) ha atravesado desde una etapa caracterizada por demandas  del gremio de profesores, (primeras décadas del siglo XX), hacia la etapa de su consolidación como  modalidad educativa bajo los gobiernos Radicales (1939-1952) - orientados a fomentar la industrialización del país –, pasando, luego, por la Reforma Educacional de 1965 bajo el gobierno DC, posteriormente por la etapa del proceso de modernización de corte neoliberal bajo el régimen militar de Augusto Pinochet, hasta la reforma de los años 90, en Democracia, para enfrentar nuevos desafíos como los planteados por la sociedad del conocimiento en los umbrales del siglo XXI.

The present work aims to study the development of professional technical education in Chile within the framework of the Republican second Centenary (1910 - 2010), in order to identify some relevant milestones of its historical development process, its main challenges and vicissitudes facing the complex process of modernization of society and the new economic, technical and labor requirements formulated by the various social actors. PTE in Chile has traveled through different stages and phases of development. During the period referred to (1910 - 2010) it has gone from a stage characterized by demands of the teachers' union (first decades of the twentieth century), towards the stage of its consolidation as an educational modality under the Radical governments (1939 - 1952) - oriented to promote the industrialization of the country -, and then to the Educational Reform of 1965 under the DC government, later by the stage of the process of modernization of neoliberal court under the military regime of Augusto Pinochet until the reform of the 1990s, In Democracy, to face new challenges such as those posed by the knowledge society at the threshold of the 21st century.
