The essay discusses some relations between cultural studies and literature. From a cultural history’s point of view, literature has lost its status as dominant media in the second half of the twentieth century. Dedicating itself to the study of the production, circulation and consumption of cultural goods of many realms, cultural studies has been an answer to this development. However, for a cultural education in its dimension of human formation, literature continues to be essential.
