The dossier “Religious Diversity: between expressions and asymmetries” includes discussions on different traditions of faith and practice, such as Buddhism, Catholicism, Protestantism and Umbanda. The volume sheds light on disputes within some religious groups and between religious identities, drawing attention to the complexity of dealing with differences in more or less stable systems of beliefs, doctrines and behaviors. The selected articles testify to the relevance, for religions, of the debate on social markers of difference today, such as issues of gender and race, and also to the struggle undertaken by different actors in the search for recognition. They also narrate the historical transformations that our country is undergoing in this area, including Catholic hegemony, the advancement of evangelicalism and the growing visibility of Afro-indigenous traditions.
