Abstract

In related literature, there is a certain consensus that the challenge in defining the concept of migration is mainly due to the malleability of this phenomenon, which is capable of involving different criteria, based on distinct points of view that vary according to the authors and the area of knowledge. This paper aims to briefly present the main concepts and theories regarding classical and contemporary migration, and considering the panorama of current migrations, show, in a case study, which of these theories better explains recent migrations. The methodology was based on literature review s in the specialized literature, academic studies, and diverse data from institutions that deal with this issue. The results point to a specific theory: social networks are the best contributors to comprehend migration processes.
