EROSIVE PROCESSES ON THE LOWER SHORE OF THE RESERVOIR OF UHE ROSANA (SP/PR): PERCEPTION OF INHABITANTS IN THE SURROUNDING AREAS

Abstract

The construction of reservoirs for energy generation presents numerous impacts on the landscape, turning preventive and mitigating actions a need in the sense of lessening these impacts. The objective of this study was to evaluate the perception of impacts by inhabitants close to the reservoir of hydroelectric plant of Rosana (SP/PR), such as the processes of shoreline erosion, as well as the socio-environmental changes that derive from the creation of the reservoir and the existence of actions developed by the providing company for environmental improvement. For that, the methodological approach adopted in this study was descriptive and qualitative, held by semi-structured interviews covering 20 landowners from the surrounding areas of the reservoir. It was noted that the landowners were able to perceive the multiple aspects of environmental degradation, which transformed the local landscape, especially in Permanent Preservation Areas. The main impacts that were raised are: shoreline erosion (65%), decrease of number of fish in the reservoir (55%) and the lack of environmental programs, mainly of reforestation of riparian vegetation (60%). The study found a necessity of an articulation process between public authority and the energy provider company, within their legal competence, in a way that enables the implementation of programs of reforestation and recuperation of degraded areas.
