Abstract

The study objectified to identify nurses’ perception concerning the importance of the preoperative visit, establishing it as the first stage in the assistance systematization of perioperative nursing. It features a descriptive qualitative research, the technique of data collection was a questionnaire and two workshops were held. The visit represents a valuable instrument, allowing nurses to assist patients individually, systemically and continuously. All nurses had considered the visit important and as one of their attributions, however a significant number does not carry it out, due to innumerable difficulties. They had listed eighteen nursing diagnoses as visit priorities. This study backs up nurses of the Surgical Unit and Surgical Admittance Units so that they can set up preoperative visits as a basic and indispensable procedure for the evaluation of all patients that undergo elective surgeries in the hospital.
