This is a phenomenological-qualitative study with the objective of caring for the child victim of violence, to
reflect on the role of nursing on caring for these victims, and as well as to expose the social reflect of violence against
children. Four students of Santa Maria Municipal School/RS participated on this research. Data were obtained through
play activities, lived dialogue and observations during 6 meetings between March and July of 2008, were registered in a
field journal, and the analyzed and subsequently described in significant categories. On caring by the guidance of the five
phases of the nursing process by Paterson & Zderad, we were able to identify the meaning of the family in these children’s
lives, the importance of nursing in the well being and being well of the victims and the relevance of the social support to
the families as one of the solutions to the problem.
