DISTANCE LEARNING: A TOOL FOR ONGOING EDUCATION OF NURSES WHO WORK WITH PERIOPERATIVE CARE

Distance Learning (DL) has become a concrete and efficient strategy for professional education. The
objectives of this study were: to identify nurses’ former experience on DL; to identify nurses’ interest in taking distance
learning courses, and apprehend from nurses theme suggestions for DL courses. Results disclosed that most of them
(59%) had specialization degree and worked in perioperative care for over 10 years (41%). It was observed that 88% had a
computer at home and 100% had access to Internet, however only 35% accessed it. As for DL experience, 53% claimed they
had none. Most participants (88%) showed interest in taking DL courses and suggested several themes.
