Perceptions of nurses in regards to the "power" they held in the impatient units and in the institutions where they work are analysed aqccording to Foucault. Semi – structured interviews performed with 13 nurses of hospitals in Florianopolis lead to the conclusion that the nurse helds significant "power" within the impatient unit. However, such "power"is disciplinary, localized, delegated, and with limited acess to the overall decision making process of the institution.
