This study aimed to report the experience of the implantation of the Multiprofessional Residency in Health program, in the area of concentration ‘Care for the Critically-Ill Patient’, run by the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, regarding the organization, paths taken and challenges met in the qualification of the first group of residents, between 2010 and 2011. The multiprofessional residencies in health stand out among the main strategies used for achieving integrality. In the Program, the teams – two in all – were made up of one professional from each area: Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Nutrition and Dentistry. Each team attended a minimum of three patients considered to be critically ill, selected in accordance with clinical criteria. Later, each resident proceeded to an evaluation specific to his or her area, and, in conjunction, elaborated a single therapeutic plan. Better integration with the medical team constitutes one of the challenges to be achieved. This residency explored new horizons and filled some gaps in the process of production of local health.
